How to jump
- One button, three times. Space or a click leaves the gate, jumps at the table edge, and lands. Press to jump as the skis reach the red line at the end of the table; early and you lose the push, late and you lose the height.
- Lean with the pointer over the hill, or with ↑ and ↓. Pointer high leans forward, pointer low leans back. In the air, keep the skis in the green: too flat and the air does nothing, too steep and it stalls and you sit down.
- Leaning at the moment you jump aims the jump. A headwind is happy with a flat, fast take-off. A tailwind is not.
- Land by pressing again just before the snow. Time it and you get a telemark and the marks that go with it. Miss it and you land on two feet, which the judges notice. Press far too early and you stand up in mid-air, which costs metres.
- Points are the FIS way: sixty for the K-point, more or less per metre by hill size, five judges out of twenty with the highest and lowest dropped, and a wind compensation that gives back what a tailwind took.
- Today's hill is the same for everyone today, two jumps, one result to copy. The season is six hills from a K20 with a barn to Holmenkollen. Everything else is practice.
